PinShift will not open on the Mac
macOS shows a security warning, the DMG will not open, or the app closes at launch.
Try first: Check the public release status before changing any Mac security setting.

The iPhone is not detected
PinShift shows no device even though the cable is connected.
Try first: Unlock the iPhone, connect it directly with a data cable, then choose Check again.

Trust or Developer Mode is blocked
The readiness panel asks for Trust, a passcode, Developer Mode, or an on-device restart.
Try first: Complete the requested step on the iPhone; PinShift cannot approve or bypass it.

The app still shows the old location
PinShift reports an active test, but an app on the iPhone has not visibly refreshed.
Try first: Confirm the USB state, then make the app you control request location again.

Map, search, or routing is unavailable
Tiles are missing, address search fails, or no usable street route is returned.
Try first: Use manual coordinates for a fixed test, or adjust route stops and retry later.

Restore real location did not finish
The clear command failed, the phone disconnected, or the result is unconfirmed.
Try first: Treat the simulation as potentially active, reconnect and unlock the same iPhone, then retry restore.

An update is missing or cannot install
No prompt appears, the signed download fails, or Update now is unavailable.
Try first: Open Settings and choose Check for updates, then review the updater status shown there.
Go to the detailed stepsNo iPhone is detected
- Use a USB cable that supports data, not only charging.
- Connect directly to the Mac instead of through an unreliable hub, display, or adapter.
- Unlock the iPhone and keep its Home Screen visible.
- Disconnect, wait five seconds, reconnect, and choose Check again.
- Confirm Finder can see the iPhone. If Finder cannot see it, resolve the USB or Apple-device connection before retrying PinShift.
If the device repeatedly appears and disappears, try another known data-capable cable and Mac port. PinShift pauses presence checks during device operations, so do not start multiple repairs while one operation is still running.
Trust or pairing is blocked
Trust is an Apple security boundary. Accept the prompt on the iPhone and enter its passcode there. PinShift cannot approve Trust, recover a passcode, access Activation Lock, or override MDM.
If the device belongs to an organization, stop and ask the device owner or administrator. Do not remove a management profile or change policy to make PinShift work.
The Trust prompt does not appear
- Keep the iPhone unlocked and reconnect it directly.
- Confirm the iPhone is visible in Finder.
- Follow Apple’s supported pairing guidance for that Mac and iOS version.
- Return to PinShift and choose Check again.
Do not delete pairing records by hand or use a third-party bypass utility.
Developer Mode is unavailable
Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode on the iPhone. The change can require a restart, unlock, and on-device confirmation. Reconnect USB afterward and choose Check again.
If the setting does not appear or is restricted, check the iOS version and organization policy. PinShift intentionally has no workaround for a missing or restricted setting.
Developer image, tunnel, or DVT is blocked
These are separate readiness steps used by Apple’s modern device services. Use PinShift’s preparation action, keep the iPhone unlocked, and allow internet access when a compatible developer-support file is missing. Follow the exact visible next step rather than starting unrelated commands.
Developer detail
PinShift keeps version-specific pymobiledevice3 syntax inside its packaged bridge. Older and newer iOS releases can use different developer-image, tunnel, and DVT workflows. A download completing does not prove that the image mounted or that the service became ready.
An app still shows the old location
A completed set-location command does not force every app to refresh immediately. Apps can cache coordinates, request location only in certain lifecycle states, or apply their own permission and accuracy rules.
- Confirm PinShift still shows the expected authorized iPhone and an active simulation.
- Confirm the app you control has the intended iOS location permission.
- Bring that app to the foreground and use its normal refresh flow, or relaunch it if that is part of your documented test.
- Compare the observed state with the expected behavior instead of repeatedly changing the device setup.
- When the test ends, return to PinShift and restore real location.
Map, address search, or route calculation fails
Map tiles, geocoding, and street routing are independent of the USB simulation service. A provider failure does not mean the iPhone connection failed.
- Use latitude and longitude directly for Fixed, Precision, or Micro Route tests.
- For Pro Route, confirm every stop is selected, distinct, and on or near a routable street.
- Retry street calculation after connectivity or the provider recovers.
- Keep visible map and route attribution in any product capture.
PinShift does not replace a failed street route with a misleading straight line through buildings or other impossible geometry.
Stop and restore real location fails
- Reconnect the same authorized iPhone by USB.
- Unlock it and restore Trust if iOS asks.
- Open PinShift. Recovery keeps the restore action available without storing the full identifier or coordinate.
- Choose Stop and restore real location again.
- If the app cannot recover, use the bundled
pinshift-resetutility only when exactly one authorized iPhone is connected. It attempts the same constrained clear operation; it is not a general shell.
macOS blocks the DMG or app
Return to the download status page. Do not disable Gatekeeper, remove quarantine metadata, or paste a workaround command. A public release must be Developer ID signed, notarized, stapled, checksum-published, and clean-install tested.
If those gates are not green, there is no supported public installer yet. If a qualified release still triggers a warning, treat it as a release defect and prepare a report.
An update is missing or cannot install
- No prompt: open Settings and choose Check for updates.
- Up to date: the HTTPS feed did not offer a strictly newer compatible version.
- Check failed: confirm internet access and retry manually to see redacted technical detail.
- Update now disabled: finish device work and confirm Stop and restore real location first.
- Older installation: install PinShift 0.4.0 manually once to move to the new update channel.
Read App updates for signature verification, privacy, progress, restart, and detailed recovery behavior.
Share diagnostics safely
Use PinShift’s built-in redacted technical detail and review it before sharing. Do not post full UDIDs, pairing records, passcodes, Apple credentials, personal paths, exact private coordinates, real-device screenshots, or private map history.
