Route testing guide

Turn movement into a scenario you can repeat.

Micro Route is a compact continuous loop. Pro Route is a timed, multi-stop path with travel profile, pace, optional stops, and dwell controls. Both finish with the same explicit restore action.

Build and run the route

  1. Choose the route mode. Use Micro Route for a compact loop or Pro Route for a multi-stop path that follows mapped streets.
  2. Define public test points. Select a test center or stops that do not reveal a private home, workplace, or real-device history.
  3. Choose the travel profile. Select walking, cycling, driving, or a documented custom pace that matches the scenario.
  4. Calculate and review. For Pro Route, inspect the returned street path and adjust the stops if no usable route is available.
  5. Run, observe, and restore. Start the route, record the app behavior you control, then stop and restore real location.

Example: the museum tour that waits for the exhibit

For an audio-guide demo you control, create public stops at the entrance and two exhibit areas. Choose walking, use a measured pace, and add a short dwell at each stop so the expected screen has time to appear. If the tour gets to the gift shop before the narration gets to the dinosaur, the recorded timing gives you a concrete adjustment for the next run.

What to observe

  • Whether movement begins only after the expected readiness state.
  • How the app handles heading changes, pauses, and arrival at a stop.
  • Whether progress and current coordinates refresh while PinShift is visible.
  • What happens when the app enters the background or loses connectivity.
  • Whether the final clear completes before the iPhone is disconnected.

Know the limits

A simulated coordinate stream does not reproduce cellular handoffs, real GPS noise, every motion sensor, network latency, or physical road conditions. Keep a physical-device field test for requirements that depend on those signals.

Use routes only with an iPhone you own or are authorized to test, and only in apps or demonstrations where the scenario is permitted. Do not use route simulation to evade service rules, falsify attendance, or gain an unfair advantage.

Stop and restore

Pause if needed, then select Stop and restore real location. If the clear is unconfirmed, PinShift keeps the restore action available. Reconnect the same authorized iPhone, unlock it, and retry before treating the test as finished.
